Truth Is Just Perception

By Admitting His Abject Lie, JD Vance Says More About The Media Than About Himself

Donald Trump’s running mate admitted on CNN that he was ready to invent false information to get his point across. In doing so, he implicitly acknowledged that the stories of immigrants stealing and eating the cats and dogs of Springfield, Ohio residents, about which he was questioned by the journalist, were the product of a conspiracy theory.

It’s not surprising, when it comes to JD Vance, that this tale is marked by abject racism. JD Vance is indeed one of the worst American politicians, without any moral or ethical limits, and all the more dangerous because he is very smart. Along with Elise Stefanik, who is his twin in all these respects, he was the worst option among the candidates for the Vice Presidency on Donald Trump’s ticket. Which is obviously why he was chosen by Trump.

JD Vance and Elise Stefanik notably have in common that they were initially resolute opponents of Donald Trump before becoming his two most faithful lapdogs1. The former, who is our focus today, called him a “moral disaster” and wondered if he wasn’t “America’s Hitler.” In 2016, he explained that “Trump makes people I care about afraid. Immigrants, Muslims, etc. Because of this, I find him reprehensible. God wants better of us.” In 2017, following Donald Trump’s election, he emphasized that “in 4 years, I hope people remember that it was those of us who empathized with Trump’s voters who fought him aggressively.” Seven years later, JD Vance has forgotten his love for immigrants and has become the number one accomplice of the the apprentice dictator.

Having sketched the portrait of the candidate for the Naval Observatory, let’s return to his interview on CNN, from which you can see the relevant excerpt below:

The sentence that interests me is this one: “If I have to create stories to get the American media to pay attention to the suffering of the American people, that’s what I’m going to do.

The revelation in this statement is not that JD Vance is ready to do anything to get elected – we already knew that. The eye-opener relates to his view of the news media and its insatiable appetite for sensationalism. And unfortunately, he’s right. The American media only talked about the congestion of Springfield’s public services when Donald Trump and JD Vance propagated false racist stories about this city. In doing so, they gave oxygen to this sham instead of letting it evaporate into their indifference.

Their addiction to the spectacular is exploited by all politicians who, like JD Vance, have understood it and couldn’t care less about the hygiene of democratic debate. Worse still, it serves all those who, like Donald Trump and his televised henchmen, have a strategy to “flood the zone with shit” (sic), according to Steve Bannon’s words. This disinformation strategy, also used by Vladimir Putin in his country and among his enemies, aims to disorientate the people so that they are more willing to accept a dictatorship.

The weaker the journalists are, the more free rein the so-called strongmen have.

1 And even that is an insult to lapdogs.
